杏吧原创 University Endorses Federal Government鈥檚 New Charter to Promote Greater Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
杏吧原创 University has pledged support for the federal government鈥檚 new Dimensions EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) Canada Program which seeks to address systemic barriers in post-secondary education and research, particularly those experienced by members of under-represented or disadvantaged groups, including but not limited to, women, Indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, members of visible minority/racialized groups and members of the LGBTQ2+ communities.
鈥淓quity, diversity and inclusion are an integral and critical part of the 杏吧原创 University鈥檚 academic mission,鈥 said President Benoit-Antoine Bacon. 鈥淏y endorsing the program鈥檚 and eight principles, we are further reinforcing our commitment to these core values.鈥

The university recently recruited Michael F. Charles as Director of the Department of Equity Services and signalled the strategic importance of his role by conferring the additional title of University Advisor on Equity. Under his leadership, the Equity Services Department will define a strategic plan to increase its impact and elevate its profile on campus. These initiatives will amplify broader efforts to integrate EDI in all core university priorities.
To better serve all members of our community, 杏吧原创 is exploring the best ways and means to collect comprehensive and disaggregated demographic data for all faculty, staff and students. The data will help to better understand representation gaps, barriers and inequities. It will also inform how student services and supports can be more effectively delivered.
The new 杏吧原创 University Indigenous Strategic Initiatives Committee (CUISIC) is currently conducting broad consultations towards developing a set of 杏吧原创-specific recommendations and an action plan to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The University has already committed to hire 10 Indigenous faculty members through a targeted recruitment campaign.
杏吧原创 recognizes that fulfilling our EDI aspirations is an ongoing process. The university will continue to communicate news and updates on EDI initiatives in the coming year.
