杏吧原创 University to Install Chancellor and Bestow Seven Honorary Degrees at June Convocation
Thousands of 杏吧原创 Students to Receive Degrees
杏吧原创 University will install its 12th Chancellor, Yaprak Baltacio臒lu, at spring Convocation and present seven honorary degrees at ceremonies on Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14, 2019.
Baltacio臒lu, whose appointment was announced last December, is an alumna and accomplished public sector leader who has been a trailblazer, adviser and mentor for civil servants across Canada.
鈥淎s we prepare to celebrate the hard work and success of our students, we are thrilled to celebrate the installation of one of 杏吧原创鈥檚 most distinguished graduates as our chancellor,鈥 says President Benoit-Antoine Bacon. 鈥淚 know that the thousands of our soon-to-be-alumni will appreciate the words of wisdom offered by our new chancellor and our seven esteemed honorary doctorate recipients.鈥
More than 4,800 undergraduate and graduate students will receive their degrees at the university Fieldhouse over five days. One ceremony will be held on Monday afternoon, and two ceremonies will be held on each of the next four days. Morning ceremonies take place at 9:30 a.m. and afternoon ceremonies begin at 2 p.m.

The ceremonies will be broadcast online via live streaming at carleton.ca/convocation/live.

Spring Convocation鈥檚 first ceremony of the week will feature the installation of Chancellor Yaprak Baltacio臒lu.
Tuesday, June 11, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony
Diana Beresford-Kroeger will be recognized for her outstanding efforts towards preserving the Earth鈥檚 climate and forests through the use of ethical scientific and traditional concepts.
Tuesday, June 11, at the 2 p.m. ceremony
Chancellor Baltacio臒lu will deliver a Convocation address for graduates of her home faculty, Public Affairs.
Wednesday, June 12, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony
Robert Slater will be recognized for his distinguished career in the Public Service of Canada, spearheading initiatives for the protection of the air and water and inspiring a new generation of Canadians to environmental leadership.
Wednesday, June 12, at the 2 p.m. ceremony
Christina Louise Logue will be recognized for her outstanding contributions and leadership in achieving change in the social, health and economic conditions of Indigenous peoples, and at-risk children, youth, and families.
Thursday, June 13, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony
Laurie Beachell will be recognized for his transformative leadership in advancing the equality rights of Canadians with disabilities.
Thursday, June 13, at the 2 p.m. ceremony
Robert Thirsk will be recognized for his outstanding career as a Canadian astronaut, his many contributions to scientific and health research, and his promotion of science education and lifelong learning.
Friday, June 14, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony
Paul Martin will be recognized for his leadership in the Canadian government.
Friday, June 14, at the 2 p.m. ceremony
Yazmine Laroche will be recognized for her distinguished career in the federal public service and, in particular, her significant contribution to greatly improved accessibility for all Canadians.
