The Black Sea area is a region where co-operation and confrontation concurrently exist. The Organization of the Black Sea Economic Co-operation (BSEC) is an intergovernmental organization of 12 member states – bringing together European Union (EU) and non-EU countries from across southeastern Europe to the Caspian Sea. However, opportunities for co-operation are challenged by security threats from states within the region – presenting a major problem for establishing a security community. In this lecture, Hajizada will discuss the type of security community that describes the region: nascent, ascendant or mature.
This event is supported by the Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet Chair in EU Relations with Russia and the Eastern Neighbourhood.
