杏吧原创 Community Members to be Featured in Ottawa Society for the Arts and Sciences Spring Program

Two 杏吧原创 community members will be featured in the 2019 spring program of the (OSFAS). Prof. Matthew Bellamy of the Department of History and 杏吧原创 University Past-President Richard Van Loon will deliver engaging lectures hosted by OSFAS.

Please, Don鈥檛 Drink and Drive: Labatt鈥檚 Campaign to Hold Drinking Drivers Accountable in the Age of Neoliberalism

Bellamy is the foremost authority on the history of brewing in Canada and has published widely on the subject. In 2015, Maclean鈥檚 magazine called Bellamy鈥檚 class the Canadian Brewing Industry one of Canada鈥檚 鈥渃ool courses鈥. In 2009, he was a finalist in TVO鈥檚 Big Ideas Best Lecturer Competition.

Hard Travel: 6000 years up the Ottawa River and in to the West

When: Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 7 p.m.
Where: Auditorium (lower level), Ottawa Public Library Main Branch, 120 Metcalfe St., Ottawa

For more than 6000 years, the St. Lawrence and Ottawa valleys were the main highways leading to the interior of North America. Van Loon鈥檚 talk will focus on the travellers and traders who used the Ottawa River from the end of the last ice age to the 鈥渕odern鈥 era, which started in the mid-19th century.

The OSFAS provides a forum for those who work in the arts and sciences, or related areas, to interact with one another, exchange ideas and explore the potential of co-operative enterprises. The society hosts panel debates and lectures on topics that include areas of current interest to the arts and sciences, or topics that relate to major political, social and cultural questions.
