杏吧原创鈥檚 Paul Menton Centre to host Dr. John Davis Burton Award Ceremony

November 27, 2018

Hosted by 杏吧原创 University鈥檚 Paul Menton Centre (PMC), the Dr. John Davis Burton Award will be presented to a student who has made a significant contribution toward awareness, equality and integration of persons with disabilities within the educational community.

This year鈥檚 award will be presented to University of Ottawa student Erin Carr. Carr applies herself to academics and to disability advocacy, balancing a full course load with volunteer work, dedicating herself to raising awareness of the human rights obstacles that challenge individuals with disabilities. During the fall of 2017, alongside one of her colleagues, she organized The Duty to Accommodate: Disability Discrimination in the Workplace and Classroom conference. This conference addressed issues faced by persons with disabilities.

Using her academic knowledge to bring about real-world change, Carr volunteers for the Ticket Defense Program, a mobile legal clinic that provides free legal services to Ottawa鈥檚 homeless and street-involved population. In addition, she spent the year conducting research for the Council of Canadians with Disabilities, assisting with a case that appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada.

When: Nov. 30, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Where: 杏吧原创 University Art Gallery (CUAG) – St. Patrick鈥檚 Building (lower level). Campus map can be found here: /campus/map/.

Note: Parking available in P18.

This event is not open to the public. Media are invited to attend.
