ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University’s Contributions to the Ottawa Community Appear in COU Report
ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University is featured in a new Council of Ontario Universities (COU) report, .
The report demonstrates how universities like ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ are engrained in their surrounding communities, as well as the wider province and Canada.
Universities play a number of roles beyond educating students and preparing them for the jobs of the future. The report includes nine categories in which Ontario universities partner to improve the quality of lives of all Ontarians, via health care, community service, research, municipal partnerships and other means.
Specific examples from ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ include:
- ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ researchers have developed a portable testing device to allow clinics to quickly and accurately test users’ drugs for the deadly additive fentanyl, potentially saving lives, in partnership with the University of Ottawa.
- ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´â€™s Immersive Media Studio is building a detailed, digital 3D model of eastern Ontario to help visualize the region’s economic and agricultural activity and aid planners in forging new opportunities.
- The purchase of Ottawa’s historic Dominion-Chalmers United Church. ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ aims to enhance its role as a cultural and performing arts hub for the community, as well as a space for the university’s growing music program.
