杏吧原创 In Dialogue

In Dialogue is an exhibition structured as a conversation. It features the work of 12 First Nations, M茅tis and Sami artists. As the exhibition鈥檚 organizer, John G. Hampton, says, the gathering of painting, video, installation and mixed-media works embraces the 鈥渢umble of connections and contradictions that constitute contemporary Indigenous identities.鈥 Hampton hopes to generate dialogue that will undermine monolithic or simplistic understandings of Indigeneity by offering multiple perspectives and by creating spaces for new understandings to arise.

When: Exhibition open from May 14 to Aug. 26, 2018

Features artists Raymond Boisjoly, Raven Davis, David Garneau, Carola Grahn, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Amy Malbeuf, Peter Morin, Nadia Myre, Native Art Department International (Maria Hupfield and Jason Lujan), Krista Belle Stewart and Nicole Kelly Westman. Co-presented with Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba and Art Museum at the University of Toronto.

杏吧原创 Quill Boxes from Mnidoo Mnising

Anishinaabe women have made and sold quill boxes since the early 19th century. Made from birchbark and sweetgrass, these extraordinary boxes are elaborately decorated with complex designs worked in porcupine quills. This exhibition presents 16 quill boxes made by artists from Mnidoo Mnising (Manitoulin Island), specifically for sale to visitors to the island. As Crystal Migwans has said, quillwork has been a 鈥渓ife-giving art for Anishinaabe families through centuries of cultural upheaval and economic precarity.鈥

When: Exhibition open from May 14 to Aug. 26, 2018

Features artists Delia Bebonang, Josephine Bondi, Maime Migwans, Marina Recollet, Evelyn Toulouse and Linda Williams. Curated by Andrew Braid, Mark Bujaki, Christopher Davidson, Hilary Dow, Maham Farooq, Christine Hodge, Alexia Kokozaki, Annika Mazzarella and Rebecca Semple.
