ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ to Launch Pilot Therapy Dogs Program
ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University will host a media availability at the launch of the new therapy dogs pilot program – a campus-wide mental health initiative.
ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University President Benoit-Antoine Bacon and Suzanne Blanchard, vice-president (Students and Enrolment), will meet seven trained therapy dogs and their ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ employee handlers.
When: Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.
Where: Tory Building Outdoor Quad, ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University
Additional Info: The rain location for this event will be the Ravens’ Studio (next to the welcome desk) in the Athletics Building. A campus map can be found online.
The unique program integrates ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ employees as therapy dog handlers in order to foster a supportive environment for students that can help address mild to moderate mental health needs and facilitate referrals.
The thoroughly trained dogs have passed the Ottawa Therapy Dogs evaluation and will be receiving CKC Canine Good Neighbour certification. The handlers have been provided with mental health training to ensure they are equipped to support students in this role.
As part of the program, the ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ therapy dogs will greet students during weekly office hours and attend special events throughout the term.
