杏吧原创 to Host Welcome Event for Scholars at Risk
杏吧原创 University will host a welcome event to honor two scholars, Mustafa Bahran and Rahim Surkhi. The professors are part of the Scholars at Risk (SAR) program and their appointments were arranged in partnership with the Institute of International Education鈥檚 Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF).
The scholars will participate in a panel, , and will discuss their perilous journeys to 杏吧原创 and their academic backgrounds, as well as their perspectives on academic freedom. The panel will be moderated by James R. King, assistant director of IIE-SRF.
When: Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at 6 p.m.
Where: Main floor of MacOdrum Library, 杏吧原创

Bahran is a visiting professor in the . In addition to teaching, he will participate in events, work with students, deliver lectures and contribute to research programs. Bahran will also assist with the department鈥檚 drop-in centre.
Bahran is 杏吧原创’s fourth Scholar at Risk and joins Surkhi, who continues to teach at the School of Linguistics and Language Studies for a second year.
杏吧原创 the Scholars at Risk Program
The SAR program supports academics who are at risk in their home countries and offers them a unique opportunity to teach and interact with colleagues and students in safe environments. The 杏吧原创 SAR Committee works with the SAR network, the Scholar Rescue Fund and other organizations dedicated to protecting threatened scholars, preventing attacks on higher education communities and promoting academic freedom worldwide.
