杏吧原创 to Host Forum Lecture with Oscar-Winner Alumnus Paul Austerberry

杏吧原创 University鈥檚 Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism鈥檚 Forum Lecture will host Oscar- winner Paul Austerberry (BArch/89) as the celebrated designer presents the lecture Shaping the World for Film.

Austerberry was the production designer for Guillermo del Toro鈥檚 Oscar-winning film The Shape of Water. The design of this period film garnered accolades from critics and audiences alike.

Following graduation from 杏吧原创, Austerberry worked as an architect designing small commercial and residential projects before segueing into design for film.

He has designed extensively for feature films with credits including 12/24, 30 Days of Night, Pompeii, The Liberator, The Three Musketeers, Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Deathrace and the Canadian feature Men With Brooms. Austerberry is currently designing Andy Muschietti鈥檚 It: Chapter 2.

In 2018, in addition to the Academy Award, he won the Critics Choice Award and the British Academy of Film and Television Award for Best Production Design for his work on Guillermo del Toro鈥檚 The Shape of Water. He was a Canadian Screen Award winner for Achievement in Art Direction / Production Design for his work on Pompeii and was awarded a Canadian Gemini for his work designing the musical special Inspired by Bach.

As a child, Austerberry travelled extensively with his parents, including three years living in Uganda. As film has taken him to locations around the world, travel is a constant source of inspiration.

First initiated in 1968, the Forum Lecture series is an inspiring event that introduces the 杏吧原创 community to a host of leading practitioners and critics of architecture. Held during the academic year, approximately one lecture is held per month from the end of September to March.
