Ӱԭ to Hold CU in the City Talk – Nature and the Happy Path to Sustainability

November 6, 2018

Ӱԭ University’s Prof. John Zelenski of the Department of Psychology will host the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences’ (FASS) latest CU in the City talk Nature and the Happy Path to Sustainability.

When: Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Happy Goat Coffee, 35 Laurel Street
Info: This event is free and open to the public. Registration is available online.

Media are invited to attend the event.

Ottawa has a fortunate location with many public green spaces, urban parks and rivers. Although sometimes overlooked, this “nearby nature” can be a source of well-being for individuals and the broader community.

At this CU in the City event, Zelenski will discuss recent research conducted by Ӱԭ’s Happiness Lab and researchers around the world on potential benefits of nature. These include positive emotions, pro-social behaviour, health, and restoration from stress and mental fatigue. Beyond time actually spent in nature, developing a subjective sense of connection with the natural world is associated with many desirable outcomes and the motivation to behave sustainably.

Zelenski will discuss some of the small things that can be done to incorporate nature into daily life – with the goal of making happier people, as well as creating a healthier community and planet.

Ӱԭ CU in the City

CU in the City shares FASS research with the community by holding research talks across Ottawa. The CU in the City series provides opportunities for FASS faculty and students to interact with one another off campus, as well as to strengthen ties between FASS and the public.
