杏吧原创 to Co-host Panel on Promoting Democracy Abroad

The 杏吧原创 Initiative for Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement will host Promoting Democracy Abroad: What Role for Canadian Legislators? in partnership with the all-party Democracy Caucus. Guests attending the special panel and reception will include parliamentarians, diplomats and stakeholders.
When: Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at 4:30 p.m.
Where: Sir John A. Macdonald Building, 144 Wellington Street, Ottawa

There will be remarks by Members of Parliament who have recently formed the Democracy Caucus, including Chair Anita Vandenbeld, vice-chairs Elizabeth May and Kennedy Stewart, and Randy Hoback.
The panel will begin with a presentation by Jean-Paul Ruszkowski, chief executive officer of the Parliamentary Centre.
Topics to be discussed will include whether Canada should do more to support democracies through international development assistance; how parliaments can make progress for greater political participation of women; the role of social media and technology in strengthening democratic governance; and lessons Canadian parliaments and legislators can exchange with their international counterparts.
Panelists include:
- Kevin Deveaux, parliamentary and political party development adviser and former Nova Scotia MLA
- Peter Dimitroff, senior governance advisor and director of Afghanistan Programs, Development Alternatives Incorporated
- Jacqueline O鈥橬eill, president, Inclusive Security
The panel will be moderated by Maureen Boyd, director of the 杏吧原创 Initiative for Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement.
