HEADING TO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Coming off impressive provincial championship wins over the weekend, the ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Ravens women’s and men’s basketball teams will go into this week’s national championship tournaments as the top-ranked squads in Canada.
The Ravens women’s team won its with a 75-66 victory over the McMaster Marauders in front of a packed house at the Burridge Gym in Hamilton on Saturday, March 3.
They enter the 2018 U SPORTS as the in the tournament for the second straight year and will take on the eighth-seeded Calgary Dinos — the Canada West conference bronze medalist — in the first game at the nationals on Thursday, March 8, at Regina’s Centre for Kinesiology Health and Sport with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EST.
After winning the program’s first U SPORTS Final 8 medal last year, a bronze, the women’s basketball squad enjoyed the most successful regular season in team history in 2017-‘18, cruising through the OUA regular season with a perfect 23-0 record.
The men’s basketball team, meanwhile, won the Wilson Cup with an over Ryerson in front of 1,200 fans at the Ravens’ Nest, avenging losses to the Rams in the past two Ontario championship games.
The men will begin their quest for an at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 8 in Halifax with a against the Acadia Axemen.
Looking to add to their collection of 13 W.P. McGee Trophy titles since 2002, the Ravens men will try to set a new mark of eight straight U SPORTS banners, one more than the Victoria Vikes’ run of seven in a row from 1980 to 1986.
