Alumnus Saäd Rafi Named Head of Toronto’s COVID-19 Recovery

Saäd Rafi has been appointed to lead the Office of Recovery and Rebuild in preparation for the post-COVID-19 recovery period. Rafi earned both a Bachelor of Law degree and a Master of Arts, Public Administration degree from ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University. He was named one of the Faculty of Public Affairs’ 75 for the 75th alumni in 2017.

Congratulations to ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ alumna Martina Buchal!

Buchal is featured in ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ Now, ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University’s monthly community magazine, which details how she was selected as the 2014 World Merit Ambassador after winning a global leadership contest entitled, Your Big Year.

In the article, Buchal gives recognition to Law and Legal Studies’ professor , who instructed her in a fourth-year Criminal Justice reform course.

MA Legal Studies Alumna Sarah Livermore published in Canadian Criminal Law Review

May 1, 2020

Sarah Livermore, a graduate of the MA in Legal Studies at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University, recently had her MA research published in the Canadian Criminal Law Review. Her paper Impaired Legislation: Analysing Possible Australian Reforms to Canada’s Impaired Driving Laws examines impaired driving legislation and recommends Canadian jurisdictions develop a method of detecting drug-impaired drivers at the roadside.

Sarah is currently employed as a Research Associate at Westboro Associates in Ottawa and as a Administrative Officer at the Ottawa International Centre for Learning. An earlier version of this paper (Drug-Impaired Driving: comparing the drug detection methods of Canada and Australia) was presented at the first Drugs and Driving Symposium held in Toronto, under the sponsorship of the Centre of Forensic Science in conjunction with the Ontario Provincial Police, the York Regional Police, and the Toronto Police Service.
