A dynamic and versatile filmmaker from the Kanien鈥檏茅haka (Mohawk) community of Kahnawake, working聽in both documentary and fiction, Tracey Deer has numerous credits as producer, director and writer.聽Mohawk Girls聽(2005), an engaging group portrait of teenagers from her home reserve, won the Alanis Obomsawin Best Documentary Award at imagineNATIVE, and she later adapted it into a successful TV series. Additional director credits include聽Club Native, an exploration of contested blood quantum laws, and聽Kanien鈥檏eh谩:ka/Living the Language, which profiles a Kanien鈥檏eh谩:ka language immersion program. In 2006, she founded Mohawk Princess Pictures, dedicated to reflecting 鈥渢he complex realities of modern Aboriginal life.鈥
