Come learn about Indigenous perspectives within Colonial institutions.

This year’s symposium invites critical reflection and dialogue on the experiences, tensions, and possibilities of navigating Indigenous presence within spaces shaped by colonial histories and structures. Through conversations with scholars, community leaders, and knowledge carriers, we will explore how Indigenous peoples reclaim, resist, and transform institutions while carrying forward relationships, responsibilities, and teachings that challenge colonial systems.

The symposium will create space to reflect on belonging, survivance, resurgence, and the ongoing work of making institutions more accountable to Indigenous peoples and communities.

Join us for a day of learning, relationship-building, and collective reflection.

Supporting Indigenosu Students: Pathways to Success at �Ӱ�ԭ�� (Student Support Certificate)

This workshop aims to inform students, faculty, and staff about the resources and services available to Indigenous students, while fostering a deeper understanding of their experiences at university. It will highlight key supports like the CISCE, peer mentoring, Elders-in-residence, and culturally specific mental health services. The workshop will also provide strategies for creating an inclusive classroom environment and addressing challenges faced by Indigenous students, such as cultural dislocation and intergenerational trauma. Through panel discussions, group conversations, and allyship training, participants will learn how to better support Indigenous students. The session will end with a brainstorming activity to generate new ideas for enhancing student support, alongside resource materials and follow-up opportunities for continued engagement.

Talk with Minister Mandy Gull-Masty

Minister Mandy Gull-Masty will be joining �Ӱ�ԭ��’s Indigenous Policy (PADM5224) class on the evening of Dec. 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., speaking about several topics, including her efforts at cultural preservation, recent court decisions and how she sees policy analysis in her department changing.

The Honourable Mandy Gull-Masty, member of the Cree Nation of Waswanipi, was elected as the Member of Parliament for ��پ��—B��-��—N�ܲԲ��̧��ǳ� on April 28, 2025. On May 13, 2025, she was appointed Minister of Indigenous Services, becoming the first Indigenous person to hold this role.

Gull-Masty began her political career in 2014 when she was elected Deputy Chief of the Cree Nation of Waswanipi, where she held key portfolios including finance, housing, mining, and administration.

In 2017, she served as the Deputy Grand Chief of the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee)/Cree Nation Government, and in 2021, she made history as the first woman elected Grand Chief of the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee)/Cree Nation Government representing the Cree people in Northern Quebec.

During her time as Grand Chief from 2021 to 2025, Minister Gull-Masty was recognized for her leadership in expanding protected lands, advancing moose conservation initiatives, revitalizing Cree language and culture, and promoting transparent governance and economic planning across the region and for promoting Indigenous women’s leadership.

As Minister of Indigenous Services, Gull Masty brings a wealth of experience in Indigenous governance, environmental stewardship, and community-led development.
