Welcome to the SID Lab Booking System

Please note these resources are only available to Industrial Design Students.

Here, you can book laboratory sessions and personal time with laboratory technicians Paul Durocher and Heather Jeffery at any of the three laboratories: Laboratory #1 (Mackenzie), Laboratory #2 (Architecture Building), and Soft Lab (Architecture Building).

Heather’s office is in Laboratory #2 (AA 214), and Paul’s office is in Laboratory #1 (ME 2460).

You can also book Meta Quest 3 VR headsets on the 4th floor of Azrieli Pavilion (open space).

Laboratory #1

Laboratory #1 is located in room 2460 of the Mackenzie Building and is equipped with 3-D printers, Laser Cutter, Haas CNC, Welding Station, Metal Lathe, Milling Machine, Sheet Metal forming equipment, and hand tools.

Laboratory #2

Laboratory #2 is located in room 214 of the Architecture Building and is equipped with traditional woodworking equipment, plus a Machine lathe, Milling machine, AXYZ Router table, Roland CNC, and sandblaster.

Soft Lab

Soft Lab is located in room 214 of the Architecture Building (on the mezzanine) and is equipped with the following sewing machines: two sergers, Brother DB2-B715 Industrial Machine, Consew DB206-5 Industrial Machine, Janome Heavy Duty 1600P Heavy Duty machine, TechSew 810S post-sewing machine, a manual crank leather sewing tool, and six Singer 4411 Heavy Duty sewing machines. In addition to our sewing machinery, the soft lab features a large layout table, 10 mannequins (from baby to adult sizes), two ironing boards, and two irons.

The Student Lab

The Student Lab (ME 2463) is available to Industrial Design students 24-7 without booking, except for the following dates:

  • Every Wednesday (September 9th – December 9th) from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM for IDES 2101
  • Monday, September 14th from 11:00 AM – 4:30 PM for IDES 4301A

How to Book

To book your appointment or equipment, press the “Laboratory Booking” or “Meta Quest 3 VR Booking” button below. A new page with the booking system will open (you must sign in with ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ credentials), where you can select the required service and time.

Please verify your booking details (Name, CMAIL email address), complete mandatory fields (IDES course number, project name, instructor’s name) and click “Book”. You will receive a confirmation email with your booking details. Twenty-four hours and two hours before your scheduled booking, you will receive another reminder email. If you cannot make it on time, please cancel your booking no later than 1 hour before it starts (a cancellation link will be in the same confirmation/reminder email).

Please note: 3 no-shows without cancelling will be penalized at the discretion of a laboratory supervisor.

Lab hours may change unexpectedly due to unforeseen circumstances.

All labs require safety glasses to be worn at all times. General lab rules are to be obeyed at all times.
