Engaging Audiences through Storytelling

Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Description:

Storytelling is one of our primary forms of communication, and our culture鈥攆rom movies and advertising to our daily newsfeeds鈥攊s permeated with stories of all kinds. To connect with people as an academic, you need to tell stories with your research, and the storytelling skills you develop can benefit you in fields beyond academia as well.

Learning outcomes:

(1) Understand how stories function as a primary form of communication in human culture

(2) Learn about the elements of stories, and different types of stories

(3) Acquire insight into how storytelling can inform how you communicate your research

(4) Gain an overview of how storytelling can function in non-academic professional contexts like copywriting and content marketing
