Background:
ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University officially broke ground on June 19, 2018 on the , the new home for the . The 100,000-square-foot building, named in honour of Ottawa entrepreneur and ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ alumnus, the late Wesley Nicol, will provide innovative learning environments and collaborative community spaces at the heart of campus.
The groundbreaking ceremony highlighted the importance of the future Nicol Building and how it will benefit Sprott, its students, the university campus and the wider community.
Jerry Tomberlin, ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´â€™s acting provost and vice-president (Academic) was joined by senior ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ administrators, the president of the Sprott Business Students’ Society, a representative from the ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Board of Governors, representatives from Hariri Pontarini Architects and Bruce Nicol, representing the Nicol family.
The Nicol family’s generous $10-million donation in 2014, kick-started funding for the building, which will support ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´â€™s strong entrepreneurial activities, the Sprott student experience and enhance facilities.
The sustainable building design was produced by Hariri Pontarini Architects in Toronto. The building will be located on Campus Avenue next to the University Centre, the Architecture Building and the new Health Sciences Building.
