Allison Whitney is the 2026-27 Fulbright Canada Distinguished Chair in Arts and Social Sciences in Canada and North America at 杏吧原创 University, and a Professor of Film and Media Studies in the Department of English at Texas Tech University. Her Fulbright research project focuses on IMAX cinema, and she is investigating the Canadian histories of its industrial, aesthetic, and institutional development. She is a member of the SSHRC-funded research team 鈥淟ocating Transnational Collaborations in the Early History of聽Imax聽Films and Architectures (1970-1990)鈥,聽
Her scholarship addresses women in film history, film and media studies pedagogy, and dynamics of gender, race, and technology in science fiction and horror cinema. She is dedicated to community-engaged research and teaching, and is a programmer with the Sexism|Cinema film series:聽
