In the past 15 years, tens of thousands of Quebeckers have begun calling themselves “métis,” despite having no ties to the historic Métis community of the Red River. Who are they, and why do so many have past links with groups that have explicitly opposed Indigenous political claims?
Darryl Leroux has spent years researching this emerging “Québec métis” movement and will discuss his findings. Leroux also published a recent feature article in Maisonneuve magazine, “,” and will explain how he turned his research into mainstream media work.
