Shinerama
What is Shinerama?
Shinerama is one of Canada鈥檚 largest post-secondary fundraisers involving almost 60 universities and colleges across Canada. All proceeds from our fundraisers goes to , which puts money towards the research, care and advocacy of people living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). In 2016, the estimated median age of survival for someone living with CF was 53.3. For every year that Shinerama has been around, approximately 10 months have been added to the median age of survival.
Fall Orientation proudly raised $2,000 on Shine Day, Friday, September 6, 2024. Volunteers were fundraising for Shinerama by selling Retro Ravens gear throughout the day.
杏吧原创’s Shinerama Program
Since 1984, 杏吧原创 University has raised over $1.4 million through the Shinerama program. From 2014 – 2023, 杏吧原创 has consistently ranked in the top 10 of all fundraising schools across Canada. 杏吧原创’s objective is to foster a community of service amongst all students. This is achieved by our passionate and dedicated student volunteers who organize several awareness campaigns and fundraising events throughout the summer and into Fall Orientation week.
This culminates in our annual Shine Day, which takes at the end of 杏吧原创’s Fall Orientation week! Volunteers and new students head into the community together to connect, advocate and raise funds. It is the perfect way to be introduced to the Ottawa community and 杏吧原创’s culture.

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. The disease primarily impacts the lungs and digestive system. People with CF have to take enzymes before each meal in order to properly digest their food and be able to absorb the nutrients, which totals out to approximately 15-20 enzymes per day. Most CF patients experience difficulties breathing due to a build-up of mucus in their lungs, increasing their chances of having an infection in their lungs. Persistent lung infections are typically treated by undergoing a double lung transplant. There is no cure.
This year, our goal is to promote education and awareness around Shinerama and Cystic Fibrosis, through our various campaigns and fundraisers throughout the summer and fall, put on by our dedicated Fall Orientation volunteers and staff.
