ICCJ Visiting Scholar: Helena Wilke
Helena Wilke is a Ph.D. Student at the Department of Sociology at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the project Justice and Restorative practices: contemporary controls and penalties. Her research investigates the effects of restorative justice on children and juveniles in Brazil and its connections with the UN security and crime control approaches toward so-called vulnerable people. From a penal abolitionist perspective, it focuses on the recent changes in the penal paradigm in the scope of the sociology of punishment and international security under the rise of neoliberal rationality. Helena is a researcher at the Laboratory of Analysis in International Security and Surveillance Technologies (LASInTec) at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a member of the study group 鈥淭he government of security in the neoliberal city鈥 of the Department of Sociology of the University of Sao Paulo.
Helena will attend as a Visiting Scholar (academic year 2023-2024) at the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice at 杏吧原创 University under the advisory of Professor Dr. Jeffrey Monaghan.
