Connecting Drivers with ADAS to Optimize Safety in SAE Level 3 Autonomous Vehicles
Overview
The CONNECT Project is a two-year research initiative aimed at improving safety for novice and older drivers, by optimizing interactions with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and preparing them for future SAE Level 3 Autonomous Vehicles (SAE-3). By studying how drivers trust and engage with these technologies, the project will develop strategies to help drivers safely transition to vehicles with conditional automation. Led by 杏吧原创 University and supported by Transport Canada’s ERSTPP, the project will involve testing and training at key locations in the Ottawa area, including 杏吧原创 University鈥檚 research labs and the Area X.O test track.

ADAS encompasses technologies designed to assist drivers in safely operating their vehicles, such as lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

SAE-3 vehicles have conditional automation, where the car handles tasks like steering, acceleration, and braking, but the driver must monitor the environment and intervene if needed.
