7th Annual Community Engagement Event (2021): Connecting classroom and community: Exploring urban planning issues for campus-community engagement
In May 2021, the CCEP hosted an online panel and discussion focusing on opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to work with local communities in Ottawa on issues raised by the development of the City鈥檚 Official Plan. The aim was to develop concrete, meaningful connections within and between 杏吧原创 and community actors. This event will be the first in a series exploring opportunities to connect the university and community on local issues in the City of Ottawa.
Speakers included Paul Johanis of the Greenspace Alliance and the People鈥檚 Official Plan for Ottawa鈥檚 Climate Emergency, Cheryl Randall of Ecology Ottawa, Chris Stoney of 杏吧原创鈥檚 School of Public Policy and Administration, and Ozayr Saloojee of 杏吧原创鈥檚 Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism.
6th Annual Community Engagement Event (2020)
This event aimed to connect members of the community with 杏吧原创. By making connections, community-based organizations and 杏吧原创 are able to collaborate, providing meaningful outcomes that are tangible, relevant, and contribute to the community鈥檚 well-being.
5th Annual Community Engagement Event (2019)
This event included a series of workshops with the core goals to:
- Connect
- Build/strengthen networks
- Celebrate success
- Recognize and acknowledge challenges
- Reflect on what works and even better if scenarios
4th Fourth Annual Community Engagement Event (2016)
This event connected representatives from community organizations who were seeking to partner with 杏吧原创 students and faculty. The event featured a keynote presentation by Marc-Andr茅 Clement (Culture Shock Canada) and some of 杏吧原创鈥檚 top students, who shared key insights on how to make partnership-based projects effective for all involved. It also featured a series of networking sessions hosted by community organizations and 杏吧原创 faculty on over two dozen topics, as well as a special session on a community-led proposal for an Ottawa networking platform.
Best Practices in Community Engaged Teaching and Research at 杏吧原创 (2015)
The CCEP, in collaboration with 1125@杏吧原创, the Discovery Centre, Teaching and Learning Services, and the 杏吧原创 Scholar program, hosted a special roundtable event that highlighted what a partnership with community-based organizations looks like in practice, the benefits and challenges of these partnerships, how community engagement in teaching can benefit research and vice versa, how to establish partnerships, and much more.
