  • Wednesday November 12, 2025 @12PM
  • 90 Sparks St, Ottawa, ON K1P, Canada

They’re back in court on November 12 to defend the Kichi Sibi and our watershed from a nuclear waste megadump! Concerned Citizens of Renfrew County and Area, Kebaowek First Nation, Sierra Club Canada and the Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility took Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) to court and WON . . . but CNL has appealed.

JOIN US as CNL’s appeal is heard, and citizen groups and First Nations again argue before a judge why the law must be respected.

A judge said that Environment Canada should not have issued a “Species at Risk Permit” for the radioactive waste dump to be built on CNL’s chosen site near the Ottawa River, where it will destroy habitat for protected and endangered species. CNL is a creation of and funded by the federal government – so it’s the feds fighting citizens in Federal Court.
Join us from Noon to 2 PM in front of 90 Sparks St. Do it for the endangered bats, songbirds, turtles, Eastern wolves and bears living on the site of the future radioactive megadump!

Ottawa Climate Equity Workshop (Aug 27) /climatecommons/2025/ottawa-climate-equity-workshop-aug-27/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ottawa-climate-equity-workshop-aug-27 Mon, 18 Aug 2025 14:15:30 +0000 /climatecommons/?p=4623 Hosted by Ecology Ottawa and CAWI

Ottawa is undergoing significant development, with a commitment of 151,000 new housing units by 2031. In Ottawa, 45% of our emissions come from buildings. Ottawans are experiencing climate change now, and equity-deserving communities are disproportionately impacted. These same communities have historically been absent or underrepresented from the urban planning and development process.ĚýWe have a significant opportunityĚýto reduce greenhouse gas emissions while addressing affordability of new builds—while also empowering equity-deserving communities to contribute to the development process.ĚýOur Climate Equity project aims to seize this opportunity for impact, directly addressing the long standing imbalance of participation in the urban planning and development process, and the need to empower all communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Join usĚýWednesday, August 27th at 6:00 pmĚýfor a workshop onĚýclimate equity.

Art in the Park: Cyanotype & Climate Connection (Aug 16) /climatecommons/2025/art-in-the-park-cyanotype-climate-connection-aug-16/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=art-in-the-park-cyanotype-climate-connection-aug-16 Tue, 05 Aug 2025 14:51:58 +0000 /climatecommons/?p=4616 Join Create Change Collective for a creative afternoon exploring cyanotype printmaking and connections to climate. Workshop #3 of the Art in the Park series.

You must register in advance to participate in this workshop—spots are limited!

Join us for an evening workshop from 1 PM to 3 PM at Vincent Massey Park as part of Art in the Park—a series of outdoor sessions that blend art-making, climate emotion dialogue, and nature connection. This workshop offers a supportive, welcoming space for youth to explore their feelings about the climate crisis through creative expression, storytelling, and community care.

This session focuses onĚýcyanotype printmaking, a hands-on photographic process using sunlight, natural materials, and pre-coated paper to create vivid blue-toned prints. We’ll begin by exploring the park and collecting items—like leaves, twigs, and textured materials—to use in our prints. Participants will then arrange their compositions and expose them to sunlight, watching the images develop in water and optional tea toning baths.

No prior experience is needed. All materials will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own small objects or natural materials to include in your piece.

This project has been made possible with mentorship support from @youthclimatelab and theĚýNature for Everyone, EverywhereĚýprogram of @cpawsov. Thank you to @experiencehowl for funding this initiative!

Planning and Planting a Rain Garden (Aug 14) /climatecommons/2025/planning-and-planting-a-rain-garden-aug-14/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=planning-and-planting-a-rain-garden-aug-14 Tue, 05 Aug 2025 14:43:45 +0000 /climatecommons/?p=4614 Hosted by EnviroCentre

Thursday, August 14 · 7 – 8pm EDT, Online.

Want to create a beautiful, eco-friendly rain garden but don’t know where to start? This Rain Ready Ottawa webinar will guide you through every step — from choosing a location and testing your soil to selecting plants and building your garden. Perfect for beginners, no green thumb required!

A rain garden is a landscaped area that captures and filters stormwater runoff, such as rainwater and melted snow, from roofs, driveways, and lawns. It’s designed as a shallow depression with specialized soil that allows water to soak into the ground, preventing it from entering storm drains and waterways.ĚýRain gardens help reduce flooding, improve water quality, and create attractive habitats for wildlife.Ěý
