Global Affairs Canada has launched the 2024-2025 Faculty Mobility for Partnership Building Program (FMPBP) competition. This program offers grants to full-time Canadian faculty for short-term teaching and/or research activities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The program enables professors at Canadian post-secondary institutions to pursue short-term research and/or teaching activities in Latin America and the Caribbean as a means of exploring, creating and advancing institutional partnerships in the areas of research, student mobility, joint programming, capacity building, and others. The primary objective of the exchange is to create new institutional collaborations and/or to strengthen existing agreements between Canadian and non-Canadian post-secondary institutions eligible under the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP).

Eligibility

Candidates must be full-time faculty members at Canadian postsecondary institutions.

Grant recipients must teach or conduct research in the following eligible ELAP countries:

  • Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos;
  • Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama;
  • North America: Mexico;
  • South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Value and Duration

The maximum grant value per project is CAD 7,000. Recipients may seek additional funding from other sources (private or public).

The duration of the mobility is three (3) weeks minimum and eight (8) weeks maximum. Successful candidates may extend their stay with funds from other sources.

All funds provided by DFATD related to the project must be spent by March 31, 2025. The actual project end date may extend beyond March 31, 2025.

The Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program, offered in partnership with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), provides opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to pursue collaborative research in Japan. This program听allows graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to advance their own research while promoting scientific progress in both Japan and Canada.

The duration of the internship is 9 weeks. Projects must take place during the period set by the JSPS. The dates for the 2024 program are mid-June to mid-August 2024. More details can be found . Note that dates are tentative and may be subject to change.

Eligibility

Open to Full-time master’s and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows at Canadian universities in all disciplines.

Funding Available

JSPS arranges round-trip airfare and insurance. Mitacs and JSPS provide an allowance for the student or postdoctoral fellow (equivalent to 534,000 yen in total). Host supervisors are eligible for a research support allowance.

Eligibility

The RISE-Globalink Research Internship (RISE-GRI) is a competitive initiative that offers undergraduate students at Canadian universities in the fields of biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, earth science, and physics the opportunity to participate in a research project supervised by a doctoral student at a German university or institution.

Projects should last approximately three months (and at least 10 weeks) and must begin between May 15 and July 10, 2023.

Eligibility

  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or international student
  • Students with German citizenship must be able to prove that they have been living outside of Germany for six or more years
  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Have completed at least two years in a four- or five-year undergraduate degree

Applications from faculty members must include at least 8 hours of teaching (as part of a course or guest lecture/seminar on recent research) and staff members apply for training (job shadowing, training courses, exchange of best practices, etc.). Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be Canadian citizens;
  • be either:
    • a full-time professor or research staff at a post-secondary or research institution in Canada;

    • a mid-career professional from a Canadian government, media or cultural organization, or a national education association, who has a graduate (Master’s or doctoral) degree and has had managerial, policy development or decision making responsibilities for at least three years;

The award component provided by the Chinese Government Scholarship includes:

    • 3,000 Yuan for Master鈥榮 students/general scholars; and
    • 3,500 Yuan for Doctoral students/senior scholars.
