Nanzan University Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) Visiting Faculty Program is accepting applications for the 2025 Fall Semester, 2026 Spring Semester and the 2026 Summer Program.

In order to strengthen collaborative efforts with its student exchange partner schools,ÌýNanzan University invites from among its partner schools faculty members in the field of Japan Studies to teach at least one class in the CJS and to carry out his or her research in exchange for remuneration for courses taught and a modest stipend.

Eligibility

Faculty in the field of Japan Studies

Value and Duration

100,000 yen stipend per month; this is to cover both travel and living expenses. No additional funding for travel to and from Japan will be provided by the University.

Accommodation will not be provided by Nanzan University but will be the responsibility of the visiting scholar.

Remuneration for the course(s) taught (from 310,000 to 360,000 yen per semester for each course for a typical three-credit course, depending upon teaching experience and academic rank).

・2025 Fall Semester: September 2025 to December 2025 (four months)
・2026 Spring Semester: January 2026 to May 2026 (five months)
・2026 Spring Semester and Summer Program: January 2026 to July 2026 (seven months)

The application deadline for all three periods is 5 January 2025.

  • CV (including educational and professional history)
  • Short description of courses candidate could offer at the CJS
  • Short description of current research interests and projects that could be carried out at Nanzan University
  • Short description of potential future contribution at home institution
  • Letter of recommendation from Chair/Director or Dean

Global Affairs Canada has launched the 2025-2026 Faculty Mobility for Partnership Building Program (FMPBP) competition. This program offers grants to full-time Canadian faculty for short-term teaching and/or research activities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The program enables professors at Canadian post-secondary institutions to pursue short-term research and/or teaching activities in Latin America and the Caribbean as a means of exploring, creating and advancing institutional partnerships in the areas of research, student mobility, joint programming, capacity building, and others. The primary objective of the exchange is to create new institutional collaborations and/or to strengthen existing agreements between Canadian and non-Canadian post-secondary institutions eligible under the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP).

Eligibility

Candidates must be full-time faculty members at Canadian postsecondary institutions.

Grant recipients must teach or conduct research in the following eligible ELAP countries:

  • Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos;
  • Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama;
  • North America: Mexico;
  • South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Value and Duration

The maximum grant value per project is CAD 7,000. Recipients may seek additional funding from other sources (private or public).

The duration of the mobility is three (3) weeks minimum and eight (8) weeks maximum. Successful candidates may extend their stay with funds from other sources.

All funds provided by DFATD related to the project must be spent by March 31, 2026. The actual project end date may extend beyond March 31, 2026.

The scholarship is for students to earn an undergraduate or Master’s degree.

The Scholarship Covers:
1. Full tuition
2. Monthly allowance
3. Round-trip flight between Canada and Japan
4. Japanese language training

Students send their applications directly to the Embassy of Japan in Canada. The deadline for research students is May 15th, and for undergraduate students May 26th.

The COOPERATION Programme supports proposals from multi-national, multi-sectoral consortia. Each proposal must include a minimum of three partners from three different European Member States or Associated Countries.

Canadian researchers are eligible to participate in these proposals on a self-funded basis. In exceptional circumstances, if the proposal can successfully make the case that a Canadian partner’s participation is both essential to the project’s success and that it represents a unique expertise not available in Europe, Canadians may also be eligible to receive funding directly from the European Commission.
