My research spans engineering, economic and social sciences, and policy perspectives to address the complex problem of climate change. My recent work has focused on:

• Evaluating technological effectiveness, equity, and economic viability of climate mitigation pathways and the air quality co-benefits
• Modeling interactions between adaptation, climate impacts and societal responses, including the implications for violent conflict, migration, and sustainable livelihoods.
• Improving synthesis tools for scenario development, quantifying uncertainty, and enhancing cross-disciplinary dialogue.

My first degrees are in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from the University of Toronto. I then completed a dual Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. Before joining ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´, I was an Associate Professor for Environmental Science and Policy in the Department of International Development, Community and Environment at Clark University (Worcester, MA, USA). I have also worked with Environment and Climate Change Canada on climate policy.

Right now, I am looking forward to the release of Working Group II’s Contribution on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability to the 6th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) at the end of February 2022. Since 2018, I have been working as the Lead Author on this report. It has been an incredible experience working with scientists all around the world to assess the science of how climate change will impact ecosystems, infrastructure, and people and what we can do to reduce these risks.  

The technical and quantitative skills combined with the problem-solving nature of engineers are key to addressing complex policy problems where the technical details matter. I am excited about training engineers on how to deploy their skills in policy setting and working with students on research projects that develop solutions to problems at the interface of technology, society, and policy.
