Sarhat Wins Award at Masonry Conference
Salah Sarhat, doctoral candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, received an Outstanding Paper Award (Honorable Mention) at the 12th North American Masonry Conference (NAMC) in Denver, Colorado, May 17-20, 2015. More than 158 papers were presented at the conference, making the 12th NAMC one of the largest masonry conferences ever. The paper is entitled 鈥淭he Size Effect in Reinforced Masonry Structures鈥 and represents part of Salah鈥檚 PhD thesis which is aimed at developing an accurate, rational shear design method for masonry structures. Salah has conducted an extensive experimental program in the John Adjeleian Laboratory at 杏吧原创 University under the supervision of Professor Ted Sherwood. The outcomes of this program have significantly contributed to the development of the 2014 Canadian building code for masonry structures (CSA S304-14). More information can be found at:
