Marissa Foley is a recent graduate from 杏吧原创 University‘s MA program in Public History with a specialization in Digital Humanities, and she holds a in Political Science and History from the . Despite her academic roots in Ottawa, she is a proud Hamiltonian and has dedicated her research to the city that she calls home.
Her project 聽is a聽community-engaged digital storytelling project collecting oral history place memories of Hamilton, Ontario’s Jamesville community and curating them into a series of podcast episodes. Through each episode, listeners are invited to explore Jamesville’s James Street North through contemporary, lesser-known histories of the street as they are remembered by members of the community and revealed in the local archive. Stories and memories from the street that have been forgotten in the context of gentrification are shared as an act of reclamation to situate the present context of the street within a larger historical narrative. accompanying essay explores the process of creating this podcast and offers deeper insights into the histories and methodologies that underpin Marissa’s work.
Her project is ongoing, and Marissa is excited to continue connecting with her hometown and its hidden histories as she works to produce new episodes of .
