Placing Memory and Remembering Place in Canada

In 2008, the Centre鈥檚 James Opp and John C. Walsh held a SSHRC鈥揻unded, interdisciplinary workshop on the interconnected themes of place and memory in Canada. The event brought together scholars from across Canada to discuss topics including British Columbia鈥檚 Japanese Canadian National Archive and Museum, Edmonton鈥檚 Jasper Avenue, deindustrialized Sturgeon Falls, Ontario and Nova Scotia鈥檚 Highland Village Museum.

The workshop led to a volume of essays described by UBC鈥檚 Julie Cruickshank as 鈥渞ich contributions to our understanding of memory and forgetting.”
