Designing for the disabled in Africa
The Arthur Kroeger College is proud to co-sponsor the Peter Kruus Memorial Lecture, Thursday November 8. The speaker is Noel Wilson, lead designer for San Francisco based Catapult Design, a company that specializes in helping developing world communities craft tools to alleviate poverty. The lecture coincides with an initiative in which students in ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´’s School of Industrial Design are working with Canugan, an agency that provides hand-powered tricycles to the disabled in Uganda, to improve the design of the tricycles so that they are more suited to a rural environment in which there are few paved roads.
The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in 101 Azreili theatre and will feature entertainment by African drummers. It is co-sponsored by Technology, Society and Environment Studies, the Institute of African Studies, the School of Industrial Design, the READ Initiative and Canugan.
