Research Projects

Knowing and Non-Knowing: Navigating Uncertainty in Social Work Practice.ÌýThis project takes place in theÌýSIM Social Work Research LabÌýÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ School of Social Work. The study is a collaboration between Sarah Todd, Sarah Tarshis, Kenta Asakura, Katherine Occhiuoto and Pam Grassau. This team of researchers are investigating how students, new practitioners and experienced practitioners navigate uncertainty in their practice. The study uses innovative simulation methods to investigate the strategies practitioners use at different stages of their careers to navigate interpersonal and situational uncertainty in practice.Ìý This project aims to expand positivist notions of competencies so that they can include those aspects of clinical practice that have been shown to be of great value but are difficult to observe and measure. The research is funded by a ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ SSHRC Explorer Grant.Ìý The lab is funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation John R. Evans Leaders Fund.Ìý
