France in Africa under Macron, Achille Mbembe
Professor Achille Mbembe was invited by France鈥檚 President Emmanuel Macron to lead preparations for the upcoming 29th Africa-France Summit (October 7-9, 2021). For the past half year, Prof Mbembe has been organizing debates across twelve African countries, addressing what he calls the 鈥榖ig angry questions鈥� of French military intervention, the Francophonie, the future of the CFA franc and the governance of natural resources. Mbembe has previously accused Macron of 鈥渓acking imagination鈥� in his political engagement with Africa. He boldly seized Macron鈥檚 invitation to recraft an agenda for new relations between France and Africa. Mbembe presents the key ideas in his recently-completed report.
