France in Africa under Macron, Achille Mbembe

Professor Achille Mbembe was invited by France鈥檚 President Emmanuel Macron to lead preparations for the upcoming 29th Africa-France Summit (October 7-9, 2021). For the past half year, Prof Mbembe has been organizing debates across twelve African countries, addressing what he calls the 鈥榖ig angry questions鈥 of French military intervention, the Francophonie, the future of the CFA franc and the governance of natural resources. Mbembe has previously accused Macron of 鈥渓acking imagination鈥 in his political engagement with Africa. He boldly seized Macron鈥檚 invitation to recraft an agenda for new relations between France and Africa. Mbembe presents the key ideas in his recently-completed report.
