Also mentioned at the event, we are taking our time with this theme as we want it done right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"cutheme-goals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">cuTheme Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our goals for this project are to deliver a great theme that is scalable, accessible, flexible, secure, user friendly, and supported.&nbsp; Here&#8217;s what we mean by that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"scalable\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scalable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This speaks to new processes we\u2019ve implemented to ensure that we are using our resources appropriately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New development process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New feature development requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More room for more features<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"accessible\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessible<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We planned this theme with accessibility first<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Undergoing a lot of testing to ensure our template meets WCAG 2.0 AA requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We&#8217;re using an accessibility scanning tool called Tenon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As part of the migration process, we will scan each site with Tenon and work with content editors to fix any content accessibility errors before it goes live<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New accessibility training and workshops coming!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"flexible\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flexible<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Website editors will have a lot more control of how their content displays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Homepage layouts \u2013 drag and drop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More options for content displays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Option to use top or side nav<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New jump to menu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rolling out a new drag and drop newsletter \u2013 this will not be included in the initial rollout<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"secure\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Secure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We did a plugin review and we only use plugins from trusted sources, many we do in house<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Running the latest PHP and run wordpress updates often<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Duo two-factor authentication has been enabled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"user-friendly\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">User Friendly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Introducing Gutenberg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drag and drop content editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re-usable blocks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MK recently attended a conference and heard from three other schools who migrated to Gutenberg. They shared their lessons learned &#8211; we will be using this feedback to help make the new interface as intuitive as possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"supported\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Supported<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Group and individual training will be provide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New documentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New style guide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New workshops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"cutheme-progress\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">cuTheme Progress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a quick overview of where we are at with the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what we have done:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Backend architecture review complete<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New server set up ready to go<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raven Design System (RDS) tested and accessibility concerns addressed (this took longer than anticipated, but we are very happy with where we are now) &#8211; this is what essentially controls the entire look and feel of the theme<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Custom Post Types complete (posts, events, people, video, files, etc) and tested<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New listing tool which will be used to push and pull content (needs testing with real data)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New photo options (includes banner and thumbnail images)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Site content reviews with Grad Studies, Neuroscience, and Sprott<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And this is what we are working on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Final development on blocks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>QA on new blocks (gallery, timeline, image blocks)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Editor UI for workflows for applicable blocks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Migration plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documentation plan (including new video tutorials)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Site content review with SSAC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And then there&#8217;s the actual migration&#8230;but we&#8217;ll talk more about that in a future post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luckily we have two co-ops joining us in January to help with documentation, training, and site migrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any questions or concerns about, please don&#8217;t hesitate to<a href=\"mailto:marykathryn.roberts@carleton.ca\"> contact me<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As you know, we&#8217;ve been working on developing a new theme for our 550 websites.&nbsp; If this is news to you, I encourage you to read &nbsp;A New theme for ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ Websites is Coming&nbsp;well as our last CU Theme Progress Report.
