This address will be in English.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Patterson\u2019s address, \u201cImag(in)ing Childhood in Apartheid&#8217;s Last Decades,\u201d will draw from a range of historical and especially visual\u00a0material, to examine the contested and conflicting constructions of childhood in late apartheid South Africa from 1976\u00a0into\u00a0the early years of democracy.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Patterson is an Assistant Professor at 杏吧原创 University in the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies. She earned her doctorate in\u00a0Anthropology and History and a certificate in Museum Studies from the\u00a0University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Patterson is co-editor of several articles and two books:\u00a0<em>Curating Difficult Knowledge: Violent Pasts in Public Places\u00a0<\/em>(Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) and\u00a0<em>Anthrohistory: Unsettling Knowledge and Questioning Discipline<\/em>\u00a0(University of Michigan Press, 2011).\u00a0Currently, she is working on a manuscript that examines the multiple and contested understandings of childhood in late-apartheid South Africa.
