As we continue to explore our four-pronged approach to building an <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ai\/instructors\/recommendations-and-guidelines\/#:~:text=Developing%20Your%20Course%2DLevel%20AI%20Strategy\">AI strategy for your course<\/a>, this month\u2019s focus is on prong No. 2: The AI talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"the-ai-talk-setting-the-stage-for-ai-use-in-your-course\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The AI Talk \u2013 Setting the Stage for AI Use in Your Course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you prepare your class schedule and your course in Brightspace, now is the time to consider how you\u2019ll introduce your stance on AI tools to students. &#8220;The AI Talk&#8221; is about more than just rules\u2014it\u2019s a chance to open a conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What role will AI play in your course?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where is it encouraged or restricted?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can students engage with these tools ethically and responsibly?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend carving out time early in the term to talk with students about GenAI in class. The up-front clarity can save time later and opens the door for meaningful dialogue. We&#8217;ve also noticed that saving some time mid-semester to discuss it again has been impactful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Brightspace, you might include a short message in your <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/posting-announcements\/\">course welcome announcement<\/a> or create a <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/discussions\/\">Brightspace discussion thread<\/a> to collect questions and ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We explore each of four prongs to the AI strategy in our Hands-On AI (HOAI) workshop series. Instructors who complete six hours or more of HOAI programming and <a href=\"https:\/\/itsjira.carleton.ca\/servicedesk\/customer\/portal\/15\/create\/822\">submit their AI strategy for feedback<\/a> receive a letter of completion recognizing their commitment to thoughtful, responsible and ethical AI integration in education. We\u2019ve hosted intensive sessions over the summer to help instructors build their strategies, and there\u2019s one more coming up: a <a href=\"https:\/\/tlscarleton.apprendo.io\/tls-events\/8564#\/\">day-long retreat in August<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay tuned for next month&#8217;s focus, where we&#8217;ll spotlight the next prong of the AI strategy\u20141+ GenAI activity, which is often paired with the AI talk\u2014to help you build or refine your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"tool-spotlight-microsoft-copilot\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tool Spotlight: Microsoft Copilot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you know 杏吧原创 instructors, staff and students have access to <a href=\"https:\/\/m365copilot.com\/\">Copilot with Enterprise Data Protection<\/a>\u2014a safer version of the Microsoft AI chatbot?
