The data gathered during scanning can then be modelled or otherwise used to render and represent the subject object or space. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">You can perform 3D scanning with devices like <a href=\"#einscan1\">the Einscan Tabletop Scanner<\/a><\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">, or a mobile device with Niantic&#8217;s free <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW67089366 BCX0\">Scaniverse<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\"> app<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">. Although <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW67089366 BCX0\">Scaniverse<\/span> is available on both iOS and Android devices, an iPhone or <\/span><\/span><a href=\"#ipad1\">iPad with Scaniverse installed<\/a> is recommended.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">Recent generation iPads featuring both camera and depth (LiDAR) sensing make great use of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW67089366 BCX0\">Scaniverse<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">, and can create 3D models and photorealistic scenes featuring objects, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">rooms, and outdoor spaces<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">. Scaniverse is not as suited for small objects as the Einscan tabletop scanner, and conversely, the tabletop scanner cannot accommodate overly large objects and does not capture spaces or rooms. These &#8220;all-in-one&#8221; solutions include data capture, processing, and production steps, allowing for streamlined workflows to producing content for projects and course-related use.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition to these methods, Agisoft Metashape (a stand-alone PC software) can produce 3D spatial data, models, and media content from collections of photographs in a process known as photogrammetry. Metashape presents a more advanced and customizable workflow, and is a greater time investment than the EinScan or Scaniverse solutions<span class=\"TextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW67089366 BCX0\">. <\/span><\/span>You must supply the software with a collection of photographs previously captured, unlike the &#8220;all-in-one&#8221; solutions above, which include the data capture portion. Metashape is versatile, and is suited for any sized object, as well as rooms and outdoor spaces.<\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"1\">Sample Projects and Course-Related Uses<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Creating Immersive Experiences<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><b><\/b>The Urbandale Centre for Home Energy Research (CHEeR house) was photographed from the air with a micro-drone. This includes tips for what to do <a href=\"#before1\">before scanning<\/a> and\u00a0for scanning with <a href=\"#einscan1\">the Einscan Tabletop Scanner<\/a> and <a href=\"#ipad1\">iPad with Scaniverse app installed<\/a>. Make sure you have a clear path with as few obstructions as possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Decide whether to capture a\u00a0<strong>Splat<\/strong>\u00a0or a\u00a0<strong>Mesh<\/strong> \u2013 splats are photorealistic 3D scenes extending to infinity. Meshes are made of textured polygons that can be edited easily and used with a wide variety of 3D tools<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Move slowly and smoothly during the scanning process<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to improve tracking accuracy and reduce motion blur<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Remove all red lines: <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">While scanning using the Scaniverse app, continue scanning until all of the red lines on the scan are gone.
