This was the perfect opportunity to try out our brand new \u2018podcasting suites\u2019 which feature two industry-standard Shure microphones for high-quality dual-track audio recording.<\/p>\n<p><em>The class of FREN3218 was thrilled to work at the Media Commons with the help of Jonathan and Paul &#8211;\u00a0they were very patient and knowledgeable!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They took the time to teach us how to make our podcasts. Solo, duos, trios, or groups of four or five, they led us towards easy-to-use software so students could focus on the course objectives: practicing oral French and deepening the theme of French language and immigration in Canada through the study of contemporary literature, a novel and a play.\u00a0It was such a fun and unique experience to mix our voices with recordings of the voice of the playwright we interviewed, the director of NAC French theater director Mani Soleymanlou, adding music lines and sound effects.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The studios are clean, soundproof and well-equipped with professional equipment. But to be fair, the best part of the studio is the team!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u2013 Anne Tr\u00e9panier<\/em><br \/>\n<\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-dbst-3002-podcasting-assignment\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-dbst-3002-podcasting-assignment\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">DBST 3002 - Podcasting assignment<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-dbst-3002-podcasting-assignment\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>The Media Commons hosted Fady Shanouda\u2019s class in Fall 2022 for in-class recording sessions of a podcast series.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Media\u00a0Commons is a unique resource available to 杏吧原创 University\u2019s students and faculty that can help produce one-of-a-kind knowledge mobilization materials. Students in my class used the Media Commons space, with the assistance of the expert staff, to develop a four-part podcast series as part of their final class project. The results were exceptional! Students learned critical analytic skills in the research and design of the podcast script, as well as hands-on transferable skills, such as collaboration, communication, time management, and accountability, as they recorded, edited, and published the podcast. The Media Commons is easy to book; the students enjoyed working alongside the staff, and the equipment and space are top-of-the-line. Faculty members should consider the Media Commons as they design a class assignment or as part of a future research project&#8217;s knowledge mobilization activities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2013 Fady Shanouda<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-film-2801-video-assignments\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-film-2801-video-assignments\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">FILM 2801 - Video assignments<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-film-2801-video-assignments\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>Students in Laura Taler\u2019s course were provided with in-class workshops on storytelling, camera and video editing, and made use of the equipment loans and edit suites.<\/p>\n<p><em>The students in FILM 2801 benefit greatly from the expertise of the personnel in the Media Commons. The workshops that are integrated into the course, led by Media Commons personnel, provide basic training and allow students to learn from experts in the field with different backgrounds and experiences. The equipment available to students via Media Commons is essential to the course and to the completion of assignments. Students who choose to use the edit suites benefit from a well-equipped, professional environment. In addition, Media Commons personnel generously offer one-on-one training sessions with students to help them with specific technical questions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2013 Laura Taler<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-fysm-1506c-digital-multimedia-assignments\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-fysm-1506c-digital-multimedia-assignments\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">FYSM 1506C - Digital multimedia assignments<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-fysm-1506c-digital-multimedia-assignments\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>William Flynn made use of the Media Commons to support the creation of digital comics as a course assignment.<\/p>\n<p><em>In our FYSM &#8216;Creative Sociology&#8217; over the past four years we\u00a0used the Media Commons for several course assignments. We used the Mac computers and extensively utilized the equipment loan option-especially the audio recording equipment that students and faculty had easy access to for a podcast and audio journal assignment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Having easy access to all of the technical, resource-based and experienced staff supports from Media Commons allowed us to plan for and execute many innovative and experimental digital and multimedia type assignments with the students in the FYSM. The students really appreciated the staff support they received from Media Commons as well as having access to high-quality computers and workstations, and a range of audio and video equipment they could freely borrow for their assignments.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2013 Billy Flynn<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"ContentPasted0\">Booking a Suite<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"ContentPasted0\">Priority is given to student media production for course assignments, and other instructional purposes, on a first-come-first-served basis.
