The EDC offers one-on-one consulting for matters such as this. We can meet in person or discuss over email or the phone what you’re thinking about, and go from there. Usually it’s best to email our main account (edc@carleton.ca) to make arrangements so we can identify who’s best suited and available to help.

To examine some sample abstracts, you might check out the ERIC database: . Those might help provide you with a better sense of the genre. We also keep a list of current “call for papers” for education conference on our website that you might like to browse: .

For workshops, we don’t yet offer something on the subject of getting involved in the scholarship of teaching and learning, but we’re always trying to innovate and offer support in areas of faculty interest, so stay stay tuned to our website!

I agree that it would be valuable to have greater cross-over between conferences. As an instructor, I know how to construct an abstract for a scientific presentation on my research, but I struggle with writing an abstract about my teaching and learning experiences (particularly because I’m less familiar with these conferences and am not sure what part of my experiences would have value). Is there an opportunity (or a mechanism in place) to support professors who would like to present at an annual teaching conference? [Either one-on-one or as a workshop?]
