Update and communicate any changes to your course syllabus as soon as you can, using your preferred method. In your communications, you may want to address:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Changes to any due dates or timelines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your ability (or inability) to respond to communications while you are away<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expectations for students about work to complete while you are away<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"course-materials-and-activities\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Materials and Activities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a number of approaches you can take to adjust your course plan, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reduce\/remove\/move<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Removing or reducing content or assessments that are less vital to your learning outcomes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shifting the course schedule \u2013 some course material and activities may be easier to manage while you are absent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Replace\/enhance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use recorded lectures from a previous offering of the course, if available<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record short lectures to cover essential material only<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enlist a colleague to do a guest lecture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify material from other sources (open courses, additional resources and readings) that can serve to cover the material<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shift lecture-based class sessions to asynchronous activities \u2013 like self-directed readings, student led-activities, or discussion forums<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Alternate plans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the time for students to review course material \u2013 practice concepts and skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the time for students to work on course assignments or to do group work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enlist a colleague to host office hours for students to ask questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"tls-support\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">TLS Support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you make adjustments to your course plan, TLS is here to help.
