Teaching and Learning Services has a variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/teachingresources\/educational-technology\/equipment-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">equipment available<\/a> that instructors can borrow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is your <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brightspace page<\/a> set up so that all assessment, grading and class communications can take place there? Be sure to check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instructor Support site<\/a>, the dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/mediaspace.carleton.ca\/category\/杏吧原创+University+Galleries%3EBrightspace%3EBrightspace+for+Instructors\/204535783\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brightspace MediaSpace channel<\/a>, and\/or request a <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/teachingresources\/course-consultation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">course consultation<\/a> for help.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review your original weekly plan for course content, keeping in mind that your students are going to experience some disorientation as a result of the changes. What content needs to stay, and what content is less vital to your learning outcomes and\/or assessments?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/teachingresources\/teaching-learning-and-pedagogy\/assessments-and-exams-considerations-for-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Review your original assessment plan<\/a> for the course. What changes, if any, are needed as a result of your course moving from in-person to a fully online modality?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have pre-recorded videos and\/or other resources you can (re)use? If not, you can record upcoming lectures using <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/capture\/personal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kaltura Capture<\/a> and share them via <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/capture\/mediaspace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MediaSpace<\/a> and Brightspace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have you set up class meeting times\/office hours online? Use <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/zoom\/getting-started-with-zoom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoom<\/a> to host these.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review your plan for day-to-day in-class activities. Do they need to be modified?\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Discussions<\/em>: consider using <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/zoom\/getting-started-with-zoom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoom<\/a> (for synchronous discussions) or <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/discussions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Discussions in Brightspace<\/a> (for asynchronous discussions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Participation<\/em>: consider small <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/quizzes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quizzes,<\/a> regular <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/poll-everywhere\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Poll Everywhere<\/a> questions, and\/or simple <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/teachingresources\/2020\/blog-an-effective-low-tech-check-for-learning-in-praise-of-worksheets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Worksheets<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Group Work<\/em>: use breakout rooms for synchronous team-based work and collaborative documents (e.g., <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/teams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teams<\/a>) to allow students to work synchronously or asynchronously on tasks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"step-2-communicate-changes-to-students\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Communicate Changes to Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have reviewed your course and made any required adjustments to shift online, communicate these changes to your students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Update and communicate any changes to your course syllabus as soon as you can, using your preferred method:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/posting-announcements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Course Announcement<\/a> or send an email to your students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a track-change version of your original syllabus or highlight important changes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a voice-over-document recording using <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/capture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kaltura Capture<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/capture\/mediaspace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MediaSpace<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you have sent out the important update about the plan for the rest of the semester, be sure to communicate regularly with your students. Consider at least one weekly \u2018update\u2019 email that reviews the content\/assignment(s) from the previous week, and that looks forward to the content\/assignment(s) for the coming week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consider hosting (and recording) a transition class once you have finalized the plans to move online, so you can discuss the changes students can expect and offer them the opportunity to ask questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consider holding office hours and\/or drop-in sessions using <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/zoom\/getting-started-with-zoom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoom<\/a> to help students stay connected and engaged with your course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"step-3-help-students-find-support\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Help Students Find Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that students will also be impacted by the shift online. 杏吧原创 has an extensive set of offices and resources in place to help support students experiencing difficulties.
