Dr. Alexis Shotwell<\/a> recently interviewed Dr. Abigail Bailey<\/a> about her new book, The Weight of Whiteness: A Feminist Engagement with Privilege, Race, and Ignorance<\/a><\/em>, for the Blog of the APA<\/a>. Dr. Bailey\u2019s book was included as a reading for Dr. Shotwell\u2019s winter Sociology course, SOCI 4850D: Sociology of Whiteness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Endings offer fine beginnings. My final chapter treats whiteness as an inherited weight and extends what I call a \u2018weighty invitation\u2019 to people with white ancestries\u2013especially those of us with settler-colonial pedigrees\u2013 to remain still long enough to hold space with the discomfort and pain of the historical weight we inherit from our ancestors.
