This first of three graduation lists of the class of 2023 included 879 undergraduate students and 471 graduate students. Congratulations to all graduates!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"senate-elected-representatives-to-the-provost-search-committee\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senate Elected Representatives to the Provost Search Committee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/secretariat\/wp-content\/uploads\/Appointment-Guidelines-for-Provost-and-Vice-President-Academic.pdf\">appointment guidelines<\/a>&nbsp;of the Board of Governors, an Advisory Committee&nbsp;has been established towards the selection of 杏吧原创\u2019s new Provost and Vice-President (Academic). Senate has elected the following representatives to serve on this important committee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Onita Basu (Professor), Faculty of Engineering and Design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>V\u00e9ronic B\u00e9zaire (Instructor), Science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mira Gillis, Undergraduate Student<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kahente Horn-Miller (Associate Professor), FASS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jonathan Malloy (Professor), Faculty of Public Affairs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pat Moore, Librarian<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Howard Nemiroff (Associate Dean), Sprott<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chelsie Smith, Graduate Student<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/secretariat\/provost-and-vice-president-academic-search\/\">University Secretariat website<\/a> for a complete list of all members, timeline and more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"consultation-carleton-academic-plan-draft\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consultation: 杏吧原创 Academic Plan (Draft)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate received a presentation on 杏吧原创\u2019s draft Academic Plan. This important plan aims to operationalize academic and research aspects of 杏吧原创\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/president\/strategic-integrated-plan-sip\/\">Strategic Integrated Plan<\/a> and other important strategies &#8211; such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/studentsupport\/2020\/introducing-kinamagawin-carletons-indigenous-strategy\/\">Kin\u00e0m\u00e0gawin Indigenous Strategy<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/edi-plan\/\">Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan<\/a> &#8211; that constitute 杏吧原创\u2019s roadmap to shaping the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the support of Senate, next steps include a 杏吧原创-community-wide consultation on the draft which will be <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/provost\/carleton-academic-plan\/\">available online<\/a> until March 13, 2023. A final version of the Academic Plan will be presented to Senate at a future meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"senate-approves-12-major-modifications\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senate approves 12 Major Modifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate approved 12 undergraduate and graduate major modifications, including the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New Collaborative Specialization in African Studies to the PhD in Sociology, International Affairs, and Anthropology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Stream in Supply Chain Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Concentrations in Canadian Politics and Public Policy; International Relations and World Politics; and Power and Political Ideas to the undergraduate programs in Political Science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Collaborative Specialization in Latin American and Caribbean Studies to the MA in Legal Studies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All changes were approved as presented with effect for Fall 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"quality-assurance-cyclical-reviews\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quality Assurance &amp; Cyclical Reviews<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate approved the Final Assessment Reports and Executive Summaries arising from the Cyclical Reviews of the undergraduate and graduate program in Architecture as well as the joint Graduate programs in Mathematics and Statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"senator-spotlight-beth-macleod\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senator Spotlight: Beth MacLeod<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beth MacLeod is an Assistant Professor in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies at 杏吧原创 University.&nbsp; Her research broadly encompasses the production and perception of phonetic variation in speech and falls into the main categories of Phonetic imitation, sociophonetics, and second language acquisition. <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/slals\/people\/macleod-beth\/\">Learn more about Beth<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"next-meeting-march-31-2023\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Meeting: March 31, 2023<strong><br>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Senate meeting is scheduled for March 31, 2023 at 2 PM.&nbsp;The full meeting schedule, associated meeting materials and minutes are available on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/senate\/meetings\/\">Senate website<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Meeting minutes&nbsp;are posted once they are approved at the subsequent meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senate met on February 24, 2023.&nbsp; Here are the highlights: Winter 2023 Graduation List Senate approved the graduation of 1,350 杏吧原创 students.
