The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University Senate is calling for nominations for undergraduate and graduate students to serve on a variety of Senate Standing Committees. Vacancies remaining as of April 14, 2026 include the following:

Students selected and confirmed will serve a one-year term for the period of July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. The deadline for applications is April 3, 2026. Once the deadline for nominations has passed, positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, provided candidates meet the eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

Students may serve on Senate committees without having been previously elected to a governance position. To be eligible, all students must be in good academic standing, and undergraduate students must have completed at least 4.0 credits prior to service.

This is a Call for Nominations for TWO full-time faculty members on Senate to serve on ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University’s Graduate Council. The Graduate Council is responsible for developing and recommending academic regulations and policies pertaining to graduate studies at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´. The full Terms of Reference of the Graduate Council are attached to the end of this document.

  • Nominees must be active, full-time faculty members in an academic unit of the university at the level of Full Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor
  • Nominees need to be members of Senate while on the Graduate Council

To apply, please complete the online application form below.

Applicants should receive an automatic confirmation email after submitting the form.

Note that the deadline to apply is Friday September 12, 2025.

Call for Nominations: Undergraduate Students

Call for Undergraduate Students

Expressions of Interest from undergraduate students to fill several vacant positions on the Senate for a one-year term, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, closed on February 28, 2025 at 4 p.m.

Candidate packages will be posted for review shortly.

Elections

Online elections will be held March 11-12, 2025, for any contested positions. If a position is not contested, the nominated candidate(s) will be acclaimed and no election will be required.

After March 28, vacancies will be filled on a first-come first-served basis, provided that the candidate meets eligibility requirements and completes the nomination form in its entirety.

Call for Nominations: Contract Instructor

Contract Instructor Senate Vacancy

The ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University Senate is calling for nominations to fill one vacancy for a Contract Instructor to serve on Senate. Click here to learn more about Senate and the role of a Senator.

The position is open to Contract Instructors at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University who satisfy the following eligibility criteria:

  • They have taught at least 1.5 credits (cumulative) at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University in the past two years (i.e. from September 1, 2021, to August 31, 2023)
  • They are teaching at least 0.5 credits at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University for the 2023-24 academic year.

Note that retired academic staff, and professional librarians who are/were teaching under contract are not eligible for these positions.

The term of service is three years and will expire on June 30, 2026.  Note that to maintain their position on Senate, Contract Instructors must continue to teach at least 0.5 credits in each academic year of service.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, September 8, 2023, at 4 pm. Elections will be held online the week of September 11th, and results will be communicated by Thursday, September 14, 2023.

Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Graduate Academic Governance – Call for Committee Chair

The Academic Governance Committee of Senate is seeking nominations for a faculty member to serve as Chair of the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Graduate Academic Governance. Senate approved the formation of this ad hoc committee at its meeting on June 2, 2023. The committee’s mandate will be to assess the potential impact of the transfer of graduate curriculum approvals from the Graduate Faculty Board to disciplinary Faculty Boards on other areas of university governance. The committee’s Terms of Reference have been posted here.

The position of Chair is open to full-time faculty members.

The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of academic governance across the university
  • Familiarity with curriculum development procedures
  • Familiarity with institutional quality assurance procedures
  • Eligibility for and experience in supervising doctoral students at ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´
  • Senate and/or Senate committee experience
  • Experience chairing an academic committee at the Unit Faculty or University level

The ad hoc committee’s work will commence in the summer of 2023 and will continue for approximately 12 months, or until the work is completed.
