This service has been in operation for more than 20 years!<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"need-to-know\"><\/a>What you need to know<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Theta hosts are based on Xubuntu 22.04 and have lots of programming software installed<\/li>\n<li>BCS students can create an SCS Linux account online: <a href=\"#create\">instructions<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A linux account comes with basic <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-email\/\">SCS email<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/linux\/personal-scs-web-site\/\">personal website<\/a> capabilities<\/li>\n<li>The account has built in storage available on all theta-linux hosts (via NFS)<\/li>\n<li>You can login using <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/secure-shell-ssh\">ssh<\/a> from anywhere on the internet using the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-external-access-host\/\">SCS external access host<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-available-servers\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-available-servers\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Available servers<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-available-servers\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"servers\"><\/a>Available servers<\/h3>\n<p>You can access the SCS Linux network using the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-external-access-host\/\">external access host<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>access.scs.carleton.ca<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once on access you can jump to one of the theta hosts (May 3, 2023):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>theta01.scs.carleton.ca (134.117.26.68)<\/li>\n<li>theta02.scs.carleton.ca (134.117.26.69)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-services-available\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-services-available\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Services available<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-services-available\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"services\"><\/a>Services available<\/h3>\n<p>The SCS Linux servers have the following available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fully configured linux distribution: nothing to set up or install just login!<\/li>\n<li>accessible from anywhere on the internet<\/li>\n<li>you have 1 GB of server disk space available in your home directory<\/li>\n<li>you can set up a personal SCS website<\/li>\n<li>storage is backed up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>If you need more theta hosts or you like to see some software on the theta hosts then contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/our-people\/technical-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SCS Tech Staff<\/a>!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-create-a-linux-account\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-create-a-linux-account\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Create a Linux Account<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-create-a-linux-account\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"create\"><\/a>Create a Linux Account<\/h3>\n<p>If you are enrolled in an SCS course, you can create an SCS Linux Account using the school&#8217;s account management system:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/newacct.scs.carleton.ca\">SCS Account Management System<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-how-to-login\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-how-to-login\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">How to login<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-how-to-login\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"login\"><\/a>How to login<\/h3>\n<p>The SCS Linux Network is only accessible from within 杏吧原创.
