Why use remote storage? We all know that we should be <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/backups\/\">backing up our files<\/a>, but if you only store you files on physical media that is grouped together, it could all be lost at the same time. By having both physical backups <em>and<\/em> remote backups, you make sure that your files will be available <em>somewhere.<\/em> In addition to backups, your remote storage gives you the benefit of accessing your files from <em>anywhere<\/em>! This makes it easy to <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/virtual-machines\/transferring-files-to-and-from-virtual-machines\/\">transfer files between virtual machines<\/a>, OpenStack, lab computers, and your own computers. You can even access the files from your phone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what storage is available? Here are a few options to get started:<br>\n<strong>杏吧原创 provided storage:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/onedrive\/\">OneDrive<\/a>:<\/strong> 杏吧原创 ITS provides access to Microsoft OneDrive\u00a0<em>for all 杏吧原创 students<\/em>. This drive is integrated with your My杏吧原创One account, connecting it with your 杏吧原创 email service, calendar, and MS Office 360 suite. It is <em>not<\/em> connected to your SCS account or your SCS network drives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>School of Computer Science provided storage:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/nextcloud\/\">NextCloud<\/a>: a service provided by the School of Computer Science <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">exclusively for Computer Science students<\/span>. You receive <strong>10GB<\/strong> of storage, as well as document collaboration tools, a personal website, and access to your <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-windows\/#windows-z-drive\">SCS Windows Z:\\ drive<\/a> and Linux drives. Access is based on course enrollment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-windows\/#windows-z-drive\">Windows Z:\\ Drive<\/a>: users of the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/computer-laboratories\/\">SCS Windows Computer Labs<\/a> have access to a limited amount of storage on the Z:\\ drive, and that drive can be accessed from any SCS Windows Lab Computer, and remotely via <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/nextcloud\/\">NextCloud<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Linux Account Storage: users of the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-omicron-linux-network\/\">SCS Linux Network<\/a> have access to a limited amount of home directory storage space on the SCS Linux file server. This can be accessed remotely through traditional ssh tools, or via <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/nextcloud\/\">NextCloud<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Be aware that your SCS account data and storage space is only available for the duration of your stay in the Computer Science program.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SCS and 杏吧原创 University provide multiple ways to keep your files safe, remotely.
