When you create or update your SCS account, our system makes sure that you are enrolled in any services that you are eligible for. Like your <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/help-centre\/accounts-and-passwords-2\/\">My杏吧原创One<\/a> account (<strong>cmail<\/strong> or <strong>cunet<\/strong> account), you will set up your SCS credentials and gain access to many different services.<\/p>\n<p>When you set up your SCS account using the <a href=\"#manage-scs-account\">SCS Online Account Management Tool<\/a>, our system looks at the courses you are enrolled in and creates accounts for each service that you are eligible for. These accounts include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/scs-windows\/\">Windows Computer Labs<\/a>:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/computer-laboratories\/\">SCS computer labs<\/a> use a different network than other 杏吧原创 computers and thus uses your SCS credentials to log in. Your Windows account is used to log into the lab computers and gives you access to the <code>Z:\\<\/code> network drive. Unlike other storage on the lab computers, the <code>Z:\\<\/code> drive is persistent between logins. This storage can also be <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/scs-windows\/\">accessed remotely<\/a> in a number of ways.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-theta-linux-network\/\">Linux Account<\/a>: <\/strong>All SCS students and faculty have access to an SCS Linux Account. Your Linux account gives you access to remote servers that can be used for remote programming, remote access of your <code>Z:\\<\/code> , and to host a <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/linux\/personal-scs-web-site\/\">personal SCS website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/scs-open-stack\">Openstack<\/a>:<\/strong> If you are taking a course using Openstack or your research group is working with the platform, you should have access to the platform. Not doing either of those but still want to host a server? That&#8217;s great! We encourage student use of the OpenStack platform. <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/scs-open-stack\">Learn more<\/a> about how to get involved.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/nextcloud\/\">NextCloud<\/a>:\u00a0<\/strong>Your NextCloud account provides you with access to cloud storage hosted by the SCS. NextCloud also gives you remote access to your Windows and Linux storage, all through a simple web interface. It also gives you many more features, such as web hosting, collaborative document editing, and file sharing. Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/scs-nextcloud-documentation\/\">documentation<\/a> to learn more about how to take advantage of NextCloud. Eligibility is based on course enrolment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-account-duration\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-account-duration\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Account Duration<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-account-duration\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>SCS Accounts, and membership in course resources, have two typical durations:<br \/>\n<strong>Permanent Academic Program Accounts<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Permanent academic program accounts remain active through to the end of your academic program. Any information you save on these accounts is retained until you are no longer an active SCS student.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/scs-windows\/\">Windows computer lab account<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/scs-theta-linux-network\/\">Linux account<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/nextcloud\/\">NextCloud account<\/a> are all permanent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Academic Term Accounts<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic term accounts give access to an SCS account and resources that are only available for a particular course during a particular term<\/li>\n<li>To be enrolled in these types of accounts and resources, you must update your account at least once per term<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/scs-open-stack\">SCS Openstack<\/a> projects and course-specific <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/technical-support\/nextcloud\/\">NextCloud<\/a> resources, are examples of accounts and resources that are only accessible for the duration of the course\/term. These resources are deleted once the course\/term end.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-alternative-ways-to-manage-your-scs-account\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-alternative-ways-to-manage-your-scs-account\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Alternative Ways to Manage Your SCS Account<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-alternative-ways-to-manage-your-scs-account\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>There are two ways to manage your SCS Account:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the <a href=\"#manage-scs-account\">SCS Online Account Management Tool<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Log in to an SCS lab computer with the username <strong>newacct<\/strong> and leave the password blank &#8211; this will open the management tool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-scs-account-support\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-scs-account-support\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">SCS Account Support<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-scs-account-support\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>If you are having issues with your SCS account, first try to update it using the <a href=\"#manage-scs-account\">SCS Online Account Management Tool<\/a>.
