Girls SySTEM Mentorship – Become a Mentor /scs/2024/girls-system-mentorship-become-a-mentor/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=girls-system-mentorship-become-a-mentor Tue, 12 Nov 2024 19:27:40 +0000 /scs/?p=17313 Hello,

My name is Meriem Henia and I am theOttawa Mentor CoordinatorforGirls SySTEM Mentorship– a non-profit organization based in Canada that strives to bridge the gap between men and women in STEM. We believe that early intervention at a young age is critical for young women interested in STEM. The program provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. In doing so, mentees can gain first-hand knowledge of STEM early on, which we believe is vital in building the confidence to succeed in the future. In order to achieve this, we rely on the help of our mentors who are eager to nurture female innovators towards professional development and diversify the landscape of the STEM workforce.

I am reaching out because our applications to become a mentor for the 23/24 program year are now open.Visit our website and apply to become a mentor:.We ask that mentors are able to commit 1-2 hours a month and provide a police record check upon completing an application. Our program is hybrid, therefore we provide virtual and in-person opportunities to accommodate everyone. Mentor applicationsclose on September 15th, 2023.

After the application process, we will pair you with a mentee that we see most fitting based on shared academic interests and goals, hobbies, and overall compatibility. If you are interested in joining, more information can be found on our website at.If you could circulate this at your institution to recruit mentors we would greatly appreciate your support of GSM.Please feel free to reach out toottawa@girlsystemmentorship.comwith any questions.

Thank you for your consideration,

Meriem Henia,

GSM Ottawa Mentor Coordinator
